Lesson 9, :)

Personality :
 - is an individual's unique pattern of characteristics.
 - there are may influences on personality, including heredity, environment, attitudes, and behaviors. 


What to know about personality :
 - heredity: heredity helps determine your intellectual abilities, temperament, and talents.
 - environment where you live and the people with whom you have contact influences your personality and the opportunities you have.
 - attitude: is the feeling or emotion a person has toward something or someone.
 - behaviors: is what you do.


What to know about personality :
 - type is a person's usual way of focusing energy, gathering information, making decisions, and getting work done.
 - knowing and understanding your personality type helps you understand yourself.
 - understanding personality types helps by understanding people whom you interact.
 - also helps improve chances of working successfully with others.


 What to know about personality :
 - how you focus energy 
    (E) Extroverted : you energized by people and things.
    (I)  Introverted : energized by ideas and images.
    
How you gather information :
    (S) Sensing : trust tangible info that you gather your senses
    (N) Intuitive : give more weight info from your insight imagination.


What you know about personality :
  - How you make decisions -
  (T) Thinking : base decisions an objective principles and facts.
  (F) Feeling : trust your "gut" and weigh decisions against people's issues and concerns.


  - How you get work done? :
  (J) Judging : approach doing things is structured and organized.
  (P) Perceiving : approach to doing things is flexible; adapt to things and prefer open-ended deadlines. 


* Addition: compelling desire to use drug or to engage in a specific behavior, negative consequences, and loss of control. 


 How addictions affect health status:
  * An addiction can harm physical health.
   - using drugs; nicotine,  & alcohol can harm your body
 * An addiction can jeopardize safety: 
  - teens who have an addiction may choose unsafe actions and have accidents.
 * An addiction can harm relationships:
 - addictions neglect relationships and deny and lie about their addictions.


* An addiction can cause problems with the law : 
  - addictions can include illegal activity, such as drug use, gambling, and half to support an addiction.
* An addiction can jeopardize financial health :
  - addictions, such as shopping, drug, gambling; might cause teens to spend large amounts of money.


 * At risk for addictions: 
- depression or a negative self- esteem                                  - difficulty expressing feelings
- genetic vulnerability                                                            - trouble managing anger
- feeling guilt or shame                                                         - constant need for approval 
- traumatic childhoods                                                           
- feeling tension, anxiety, boredom, or loneliness
